Bible Verses About New Beginnings

“Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.”

God tells a stuck people to stop rereading the old chapter. The new thing springs up in wilderness, exactly where nothing was growing.

“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”

The most complete fresh start in Scripture. In Christ, the old identity is not renovated; it is replaced.

“It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.”

New mercies arrive daily, which makes every sunrise a small threshold. Yesterday did not use up your allotment.

“Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”

Paul, with the worst backstory of any apostle, models the forward lean: forget behind, reach ahead, press on.

“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:”

Endings and beginnings are built into the design. A closing season is not a malfunction; it is a schedule.

“And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.”

The Bible’s final new beginning, spoken from the throne, with instructions to write it down because it is certain.

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”

Addressed to people starting over in a place they never chose. God’s plans for them were peace, on a long horizon.

“Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them.”

God announces new things before they sprout. What looks like bare ground may already be spoken for.

“A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the Lord directeth his steps.”

Plan the new chapter freely; the proverb assumes you will. Then trust the actual steps to God’s directing.

“That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.”

The fresh start pictured as changing clothes: the old self comes off, the new one goes on, and the mind is renewed in between.

“And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the Lord.”

After the pit comes a new song. Fresh starts in Scripture tend to become testimonies other people can hear.

“And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:”

A widow chooses a new land, new people, and God, with no guarantees in hand. Her fresh start ends up in the family line of Christ.
