Money trouble has a way of following you into every room, including the one where you pray. Jesus talked about money and provision often, not to promise riches, but to teach His people to ask for daily bread and trust the Father who feeds the ravens. These prayers do that asking plainly.

A prayer when the bills outweigh the income

Father, I have done the math again and it still does not work. You know each bill on this table and the dates they are due. Your Word says You shall supply all my need, so I am bringing You actual needs with numbers attached. Provide in ways I can see, open doors I have not found, and keep my family fed and housed. My eyes are on You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

A prayer for daily bread

Lord, You taught me to pray for daily bread, not a stocked warehouse, and I confess I would prefer the warehouse. Give us this day what this day requires. You feed the ravens, which neither sow nor reap, and You say I matter more than they do. So I will stop rehearsing next month’s fears and receive today’s provision with thanks. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

A prayer for wisdom with money

Father, some of my money stress needs provision, and some of it needs wisdom, and You offer both. Show me what to cut, what to keep, and where I have been careless or afraid to look. Give me courage to face the accounts squarely, humility to ask for help or counsel, and discipline for the slow rebuilding. Make me faithful with what is already in my hands. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

A prayer after a job loss

Lord, the income stopped and the fear started the same day. Steady me. You were providing for this household before that job existed, and You have not resigned. Give me diligence for the search, favor in the applications, and peace at the dinner table so my worry does not become my family’s. I have been young and now am old, says the psalm, and the righteous are not forsaken. Hold us to that. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Philippians 4:19

Written by Paul, who knew both abundance and hunger. The supply is measured by God’s riches, not the economy’s.

“Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

Matthew 6:31-33

Jesus does not deny that you need these things; He says your Father already knows. Seeking the kingdom first reorders the panic.

“Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls?”

Luke 12:24

Jesus’ argument from smaller to greater: birds with no savings accounts get fed, and you are worth more than birds.

“Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me: Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the Lord? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.”

Proverbs 30:8-9

A rare prayer that asks for enough, not more. Both extremes carry spiritual risks the writer wants no part of.

Questions about this prayer

Is it selfish to pray about money? +

No. Jesus put “give us this day our daily bread” in the middle of the prayer He taught, right beside forgiveness. Rent, groceries, and debts are legitimate subjects of prayer because they are legitimate needs, and your Father knows you have them.

Does God promise to make me financially prosperous? +

No, and be wary of teaching that says otherwise. Scripture promises provision for needs, not wealth, and warns often about the dangers of riches. Paul learned contentment in both abundance and want; that contentment, not a bigger balance, is the deeper answer to money fear.

What practical steps go along with praying for provision? +

Pray with the accounts open. Make a budget, seek counsel from someone wise with money, ask about assistance you may qualify for, and be honest with your church or community about your need. Provision often arrives through the ordinary means God has placed around you.
