Prayers for Strength
Some seasons simply demand more than you have. The good news of Scripture is that God does not wait for you to be strong; He gives power to the faint. These prayers are for caregivers, for the exhausted, and for anyone whose reserves ran out a while ago.
Father, I know what today requires, and I know I do not have it. You give power to the faint, and to them that have no might You increase strength. That is my category this morning. I am not asking for a month of energy, just enough for the next thing in front of me. Be the strength of my heart today, because mine is running low. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Lord, I have nothing left. I have pushed through and held on and kept going, and the tank is empty. Your grace is sufficient for me, and Your strength is made perfect in weakness, so this must be the exact place where Your power can rest on me. My flesh and my heart fail; be the strength of my heart and my portion, now and forever. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Father, I love the person I am caring for, and I am also so tired. The needs do not pause, and some days I disappear inside them. Renew my strength the way You promised for those who wait on You. Give me patience when I am short, help when I should ask for it, and rest without guilt. Care for me while I care for them. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Lord, quitting is starting to look reasonable, and I need You to hold me steady. The joy of the Lord is my strength, not my circumstances, which is good, because my circumstances are not offering any. Keep my feet moving. Let me walk and not faint, and if running is too much this season, walking will do. Just do not let me stop. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Verses for this prayer
“He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”
Even the strongest run dry; that is assumed here. Renewed strength belongs to those who wait on God, not those who never tire.
“And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.”
God’s answer to Paul’s unanswered prayer. Weakness is not the obstacle to God’s power; it is where His power settles.
“My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.”
The verse admits full failure of body and heart, then locates strength somewhere failure cannot touch.
“Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”
Spoken to a weary, weeping people. Their strength was to come from God’s joy, and the instructions included a good meal.
Scripture quotations are from the King James Version (KJV), public domain.
Questions about this prayer
Is it weak to admit I cannot handle things on my own? +
By Scripture’s measure it is the starting point. Paul heard God say “my strength is made perfect in weakness” and stopped hiding his. Admitting the truth about your limits is not weakness; it is where borrowed strength becomes available.
How do I keep praying for strength when I am exhausted? +
Keep the prayers as short as your energy. One honest sentence in the morning is a real prayer life in a hard season. And remember that rest, food, and sleep are not interruptions to depending on God; Elijah got a nap and two meals before anything else.
Does needing help from other people mean my faith is not enough? +
No. God routinely delivers strength through people: a friend who shows up, a church that brings meals, a counselor who listens. Accepting help is one of the ordinary ways He answers this exact prayer.
