Bible Verses About Peace

“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

Jesus’ farewell gift, given on the eve of His arrest. His peace is His own and does not rise or fall with circumstances.

“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.”

Perfect peace is kept, guarded by God, for the mind that leans its weight on Him.

“The Lord bless thee, and keep thee: The Lord make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.”

The blessing God gave Israel’s priests to speak over the people. Its final word, and destination, is peace.

“These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”

Jesus promises both things at once: real tribulation in the world, and real peace in Him. The cheer rests on His victory, not our circumstances.

“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

The peace of God arrives when anxieties are converted into requests, and it guards the heart like a garrison.

“And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.”

Peace as umpire: it is meant to make the calls in your heart, settling what stays and what goes.

“I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, Lord, only makest me dwell in safety.”

Evening peace, prayed in danger. Safety comes from God alone, which is why sleep is possible.

“The Lord will give strength unto his people; the Lord will bless his people with peace.”

After a whole psalm of storm and thunder, the closing note: the God of the storm gives His people peace.

“And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.”

Peace is downstream of righteousness. A life set right with God produces quietness and assurance.

“Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.”

Loving God’s Word produces a stability that is hard to trip. Great peace, the psalmist calls it.

“Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:”

The deepest peace first: peace with God, settled by Christ. Every other peace grows from this one.

“For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the Lord that hath mercy on thee.”

God stakes His peace against the mountains: the landscape itself is less permanent than His covenant of peace.
