Prayers for Peace of Mind
Jesus made a distinction the night before He died: my peace I give unto you, not as the world giveth. The world’s peace depends on circumstances behaving; His does not. These prayers ask for that second kind, the peace that holds when nothing around you is calm.
Lord Jesus, You offered Your own peace, and I am here to receive it. Not the fragile kind that lasts until the next phone call, but Yours: the peace that passeth understanding, that stands guard over hearts and minds. My mind has been a loud place lately. Come rule in it. Let not my heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Father, I want my home to be a place where people exhale when they walk in. Let Your peace rule in our hearts the way Your Word says, settling arguments before they harden and softening the words we use with each other. Bless this house with quietness and assurance. Where I can be a peacemaker today, make me one. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Lord, nothing around me is calm today, and I cannot make it calm. But You slept in a storm once, and You spoke to the waves like they were listening, because they were. Speak that word over my circumstances, and if not over them, then over me. In the world I shall have tribulation, You said, but be of good cheer. You have overcome the world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Father, I had peace this morning and I lost it somewhere in the day. Thank You that Yours is not a limited supply. I turn back to You now, in the middle of everything, and take it up again. Keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on Thee: stay my mind, Lord, for the rest of this day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
Jesus’ parting gift to His disciples, given hours before the cross. His peace is His own, and it is not circumstantial.
“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.”
Perfect peace belongs to the mind that leans its full weight on God. The keeping is His work; the staying is ours.
“And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.”
“Rule” here is an umpire’s word: God’s peace is meant to call the plays in your heart, deciding what gets in.
“The Lord will give strength unto his people; the Lord will bless his people with peace.”
The psalm is all thunder and storm until this last line: the God of the storm blesses His people with peace.

Questions about this prayer
What is the difference between God’s peace and just feeling calm? +
Feeling calm depends on quiet circumstances; God’s peace shows up inside loud ones. Philippians 4:7 calls it peace that “passeth all understanding,” meaning it does not always make sense given what is happening. It is His presence guarding you, not your nervous system cooperating.
How do I keep peace once I have it? +
Isaiah 26:3 ties peace to a mind “stayed” on God, which is less a feeling than a habit of returning. You will lose the sense of peace during the day; everyone does. Turning back to Him each time, briefly and honestly, is how the habit forms.
