Bible Verses About Healing

“Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved: for thou art my praise.”

A prophet’s personal prayer, useful word for word. If God does the healing, it is done thoroughly.

“He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.”

God’s healing covers wounds no scan will ever find. The brokenhearted are named as His patients.

“Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.”

The church’s standing instructions for sickness: gather people, pray, and expect God to act. Illness was never meant to be endured alone.

“But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.”

The prophecy of the cross. The deepest healing in Scripture is bought by Christ’s wounds, and every other healing flows from that one.

“O Lord my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me.”

One verse of testimony: a cry, and an answer. David records it so the next sick person knows whom to cry to.

“Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;”

Forgiveness and healing sit side by side in God’s list of benefits. He deals with the whole person, not just the chart.

“And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the Lord that healeth thee.”

The first place God names Himself healer, spoken to a newly freed people three days into the wilderness.

“The Lord will strengthen him upon the bed of languishing: thou wilt make all his bed in his sickness.”

The image is of a nurse smoothing bedding. God’s care during illness is described as that close and that practical.

“For I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the Lord; because they called thee an Outcast, saying, This is Zion, whom no man seeketh after.”

Spoken to people written off by everyone else. Being called beyond help is, in this verse, God’s reason to heal.

“When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick: That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.”

An evening of Jesus’ ministry. Matthew connects the healings to Isaiah: the healer carries what He cures.

“And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.”

Spoken to a woman sick for twelve years who touched His garment in a crowd. Jesus stopped for her, called her daughter, and sent her home whole.

“Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.”

An apostle’s blessing over a friend. Praying for someone’s physical health is a fully biblical way to love them.
